Bill is running for Oconee Council District 1.
One of Bill’s biggest concerns is land and lake use issues. People want water and land protected from exploitive developers. It is important to protect land and water while finding ways to permit healthy commerce that enhances the countryside. To that end Oconee needs BETTER and STRONGER PLANNING.
As Bill has witnessed this past County Council season, he also sees the importance of effective interpersonal cooperation among County Council members. In Bill’s work as a producer of professional theater, he experienced bringing together people with money, skills, and talent to work within budget and on time to create a product audiences would pay for.
Bill is Professor Emeritus of Theater Arts at Stony Brook University on Long Island and has written over 25 plays, many of which have been produced. He was awarded a fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Bill has lived on Lake Keowee in Seneca, SC, for 18 years. He and his wife Margaret feel fortunate to call Oconee County home. He believes the major problem facing America today is the division that has developed in the last 30 years. It is worse now than ever, permits hatred, and weakens us. Bill wants to listen to the voters in Oconee County, whether Democrat or Republican and respond to them directly and transparently from his own point of view. We need to begin to trust our representative again.
Bill believes we have to protect and preserve this magnificent corner of the Blue Ridge. Let's keep in mind that our economic good fortune will always depend primarily on the unspoiled beauty that brings people here to enjoy the lakes and countryside we are so lucky to call our own.
